Rapper Max B Released From Prison After 18 Years, Attends Jets Game
Harlem rapper Max B was released from prison today, November 9, 2025, after serving 18 years, and immediately embraced his return to public life.
The artist, whose real name is Charly Wingate, went directly from incarceration to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to attend the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns game. Prior to the game, he stopped by The People Gallery for a quick style assessment and interview, where he expressed his gratitude. “I feel righteous,” Max B stated. “I’m feeling good, I’m grateful, I’m thankful. God is good.” He also offered fashion advice, encouraging individuals to “just be yourself” and “own” their style.
Wingate, 47, served time after pleading guilty in 2016 to charges related to a 2006 shooting in Harlem, which initially carried a 75-year sentence. The guilty plea vacated his previous convictions and set today as his release date. He also addressed past conflicts, referencing rapper Jim Jones, stating, “Jim said a bunch of hard s**t about me… It’s all good. It’s love.” Max B indicated a desire to move forward, emphasizing his new life as a married man and father of four. He also extended an invitation to collaborate with established artists, saying, “Anybody that can keep up with the boss don… look me up. I’ma get you right, I’ma get you wavy.” His release marks a significant moment for fans who have long awaited his return to the music scene; Max B’s unique influence on hip-hop, particularly his “wavy” aesthetic, has maintained a dedicated following throughout his imprisonment.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding any parole conditions, but Wingate indicated his focus is now on family and his career.
