Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Attends Syracuse-North Carolina Football Game
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was present at the Syracuse University football game against the University of North Carolina yesterday evening in the JMA Wireless Dome.
Boone was seen wearing a North Carolina Tar Heels hat while seated in the lower-level end zone. His appearance follows a dinner at a downtown Syracuse steakhouse earlier in the week. Boone has made several appearances at North Carolina football games this fall, as his son, Brandon, is a student assistant on the Tar Heels’ coaching staff.
Boone recently completed his eighth season as Yankees manager, achieving a record of 697-497 and leading the team to the 2024 World Series, where they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers. His own playing career included a 2003 All-Star selection with the Cincinnati Reds and a memorable walk-off home run that propelled the Yankees past the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 American League Championship Series – a moment still celebrated by Yankees fans.
Other notable attendees included Jordon Hudson, partner of North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick, former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, and ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. McCord, who received a warm reception from the crowd, rewrote Syracuse’s record books during his single season with the Orange before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. The game itself saw Syracuse turn to walk-on Joe Filardi, a member of the lacrosse team, as its starting quarterback.
Officials have not commented on Boone’s visit, but his presence highlights the strong ties between the Yankees organization and the North Carolina football program through his son’s involvement.
