Ace Frehley, Founding Guitarist of Kiss, Dies at 74

Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist for the iconic rock band Kiss, passed away yesterday at the age of 74, his family announced.

A representative, Lori Lousararian, stated that Frehley’s death followed a recent fall at his home, according to reports. “We are completely devastated and heartbroken,” Frehley’s family said in a statement. “The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

Kiss rose to prominence in the 1970s, captivating audiences with their distinctive black-and-white face paint, elaborate costumes, and energetic stage shows – a style that heavily influenced the development of glam metal. The band achieved massive success with hits like “Rock and Roll All Nite” and the album “Alive!”, and remarkably, all 26 of their albums achieved gold status in the United States, with 14 going platinum. Frehley, known as “Spaceman” for the star painted on his face, contributed significantly to the band’s signature sound and image, and later enjoyed a successful solo career with the 1978 hit “New York Groove.” You can learn more about the history of Kiss on their official website.

Born Paul Daniel Frehley in the Bronx, New York City, on April 27, 1951, he was inspired to play guitar after seeing performances by The Who and Cream. He joined Kiss after responding to a newspaper advertisement seeking a guitarist with “flash and ability.” His passing marks the end of an era for rock and roll, and leaves a void in the music world. Frehley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Kiss in 2014.
