Spain has detected its first outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in more than three decades. The country’s Ministry of Agriculture confirmed today, November 28, that two wild boars found dead near Barcelona tested positive for the virus.
The detection of ASF in wild boar populations raises concerns about potential spread to domestic pigs, impacting the pork industry and requiring swift action. Authorities have immediately notified the European Union and implemented emergency measures in the affected area.
Pig farmers in the region are being urged to reinforce their biosecurity protocols as investigators work to determine the source of the infection. The Ministry of Agriculture is currently tracing the origin of the outbreak to prevent further transmission.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
