The 29-year-old Spaniard secured a total of six race wins this season, including grand prix victories at Jerez, Catalunya, and Malaysia. Marquez concluded the championship with 467 points, a significant 114 points ahead of Marco Bezzecchi (3), and just 78 points behind his brother, Marc Marquez.
This performance demonstrates the continued growth of Alex Marquez since his debut in the premier class in 2020. However, he believes his accomplishments were downplayed by Ducati, particularly in comparison to his more celebrated brother.
“Yes, many times. And many times I heard comments like: ‘No, he’s on the podium because he’s riding a Ducati,’ or ‘Okay, where are the other Ducati riders?’ And that was a little… So it’s natural in the end.”
“To be underestimated, maybe, in the end, it’s normal. If you compare me to Marc, and I’m less valued, it’s because he is the best rider, if not the greatest in history, one of the greatest there is.”
“I don’t want to make comparisons between different eras, so yes, a little, but in the end I think this season people who understand, people in the paddock have seen what they are capable of and that’s what’s important,” Alex Marquez said on the YouTube channel Benzine // Cosimo Curatola.
