Apple’s AirDrop has long been lauded as a seamless way to quickly share files and photos between iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks – requiring no configuration or Wi-Fi network. Google is now working to bring a similar experience to a wider range of devices.
In 2025, Google made a significant move by enabling its Pixel 10 to work with AirDrop. The company now plans to expand this capability to many more smartphone models by 2026.
Quick Share Gains AirDrop Compatibility
According to Android Authority, Google’s Vice President of Android Platform Engineering, Eric Kay, stated, “in 2026, we are going to extend it to a lot more devices.”
Kay further explained that the feature will support the full functionality of AirDrop, allowing users to easily share documents from an Android smartphone to an iPad or MacBook. This expansion aims to bridge the gap between ecosystems and simplify cross-platform file transfers.
The list of devices that will be compatible with the next generation of Quick Share, natively compatible with AirDrop, has not yet been released.
Industry observers speculate that Samsung smartphones could be among the first to gain compatibility, given the increasing collaboration between Samsung and Google in recent years.
Further details are expected to be unveiled at Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference, typically held in May.
