“The school being remembered this way has deeply upset us.”
School principal Hüseyin İzmir said the school admits students without entrance exams and emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities like the Tedx event. “We have a number of projects as a school,” İzmir said.
“Tedx is one of those projects. In addition, we have two Erasmus projects and every year we successfully get projects approved through the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Institution 2204.”
İzmir acknowledged the school has faced challenges, but expressed disappointment at the negative attention. “We are a family of 700 people here, with a 70-year tradition, and we will overcome this. I believe we will overcome these issues with events and work like this,” he stated.

İzmir highlighted the school’s long history and the accomplishments of its alumni. “Murat Kurum, Güldal Akşit, and the late Metin Uca all graduated from our school. In addition, Ahmet Taner Kışlalı and Murat Karayalçın are also alumni. Our school has such a past. Therefore, we will overcome this situation with our students, parents, and teachers. Our ministry is fully supporting us in this matter,” he said.
Investigation to conclude within 10 days
A disciplinary investigation is underway regarding seven students involved in the incident with the teacher, M.C., and the related social media posts. The investigation is expected to conclude within 10 days, according to reports. The incident underscores the challenges schools face in navigating student behavior and social media’s impact.
