A widespread weather system is bringing rain, sleet, snow, and strong winds to Romania beginning Friday morning, prompting alerts from the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) [[1]]. The alerts, in effect through Sunday, cover much of the country and come as residents begin preparations for the upcoming holiday season. A yellow alert is currently in place for six counties, with accumulation forecasts reaching up to 60 liters per square meter in some areas [[1]].

National Meteorological Administration (ANM) officials have issued warnings for rain, sleet, snow, and wind across multiple regions, effective from 10:00 AM on November 21st to 2:00 PM on November 23rd. A significant temperature drop is expected Saturday in the west, north, and northeast, spreading to the rest of the country on Sunday. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall is also in effect from 10:00 AM on November 21st to 10:00 AM on November 22nd, impacting six counties.

Between 10:00 AM on November 21st and 2:00 PM on November 23rd, meteorologists predict substantial rainfall, mixed precipitation, and increased wind speeds, with a dramatic temperature decrease across much of the country.

Most of the country will experience precipitation, with accumulations of 10-15 liters per square meter locally. Northern Oltenia, northwestern Muntenia, and the western Southern Carpathians are forecast to receive 20-30 liters per square meter, and isolated areas could see over 60 liters per square meter. This weather system arrives as many prepare for the holiday season, potentially impacting travel plans.

Precipitation will initially fall as rain, but starting Saturday evening (November 22nd), it will transition to sleet and snow in the Western Plain, northern Moldova, and eastern Transylvania. Icy conditions are possible, with snowfall becoming more widespread.

In the mountains, snow will become dominant from Saturday night into Sunday, with significant accumulations expected, particularly on the ridges.

Wind gusts will be locally strong throughout Friday and Saturday in the southeastern regions, generally reaching 45-50 km/h. Higher elevations of the Southern Carpathians could experience gusts of 70-90 km/h on Friday.

Temperatures will cool considerably on Saturday in the west, north, and northeast, and this cooling trend will extend to the rest of the country on Sunday.

A Yellow Alert for rain is also in effect from 10:00 AM on November 21st to 10:00 AM on November 22nd, covering the mountainous areas of Gorj, Vâlcea, Argeș, Hunedoara, Alba, and Sibiu counties.

According to ANM, rainfall accumulations of 25-30 liters per square meter are expected, with isolated areas potentially exceeding 40 liters per square meter.
