Chilean workers who have lost their jobs can access several government-backed financial supports in April 2026, according to official sources. These include the Unemployment Insurance, the Solidarity Unemployment Fund (FCS) and the Unemployment Subsidy, all designed to provide economic relief during job transitions.

The Solidarity Unemployment Fund is specifically intended for individuals who have exhausted or lack sufficient balances in their Individual Unemployment Account. To qualify, applicants must have made at least 10 contributions, with the three most recent being consecutive and from the same employer. Eligible recipients can receive up to 10 payments over a five-year period.

Access to the FCS requires affiliation with the Unemployment Insurance managed by the AFC (Administradora de Fondos de Cesantía). This applies to workers whose employment contracts began on or after October 2, 2002, as well as domestic workers employed since October 1, 2020. Voluntary enrollment is also possible for certain categories of workers who began employment before the 2002 cutoff, provided they register through the AFC’s online portal using their ClaveÚnica.

Applications for these benefits can be submitted either online via the AFC’s virtual branch or in person at its offices. Officials emphasize that none of the benefits are automatic, and each program has specific eligibility criteria that must be met before disbursement.

These measures are part of broader efforts to support household finances during April, a month marked by increased financial activity due to the annual tax operation (Operación Renta), which may result in tax refunds or obligatory payments to the Internal Revenue Service (SII). For many families, especially those without steady income, the combination of tax processes and living expenses can create significant budgetary strain.

Authorities recommend that individuals seeking assistance also register with the National Employment Exchange, as participation in this platform is often required or beneficial when applying for certain labor reintegration programs.
