Terwel Borisov, a municipal councilor in Plovdiv, has officially joined the “Independent for Plovdiv” group within the city council, the group announced on April 21, 2026.

The move expands the faction’s presence in the local parliament and reinforces its role as an active opposition force focused on transparency, responsible use of public funds, and practical solutions for the city’s challenges.

According to the group, Borisov’s accession strengthens efforts to increase oversight of municipal decisions and advocate for policies aimed at improving urban infrastructure, environmental conditions, and quality of life for Plovdiv residents.

The “Independent for Plovdiv” faction described itself as constructive but firm in its opposition, emphasizing that citizen interests remain its top priority.

Borisov previously left the ITN group before aligning with this newly strengthened bloc in the council.

The development reflects ongoing shifts in Plovdiv’s municipal political landscape following recent elections, as various councilors reassess their affiliations and strategic positions within the local assembly.
