On Friday, April 24, 2026, celebrations for Día de Aragón unfolded across Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel as the region marked San Jorge with a full program of activities. The festivities coincided with the recent announcement of a governing agreement between the PP and Vox in Aragon, reached just hours before the regional holiday.
Jorge Azcón, the acting president of Aragon, presided over the institutional Día de Aragón event, where he publicly defended the pact with Vox. The agreement, finalized on April 22, includes a “national priority” clause governing access to public aid and services, modeled after a similar provision in Extremadura and demanded by Vox.
The document also excludes undocumented immigrants from structural social services, except in cases of vital urgency. While PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Vox head Santiago Abascal have differed on the scope of the “national priority” principle, the Aragonese agreement reframes it around the concept of “roots,” as advocated by Azcón.
Despite political developments, the Day of Aragon proceeded with traditional and cultural events throughout the three provinces. From institutional ceremonies to public festivities, the region observed its major holiday amid anticipation of the new PP-Vox coalition government.
