A waste management worker in a residential community allegedly assaulted two women after a dispute over uncollected trash, prompting an internal investigation by the company contracted for the area’s garbage pickup. The incident underscores growing tensions between residents and service providers as communities grapple with maintaining essential services.

Aqualia, the company responsible for waste collection in the Villa Olímpica development, confirmed it has launched disciplinary proceedings following the reported altercation. According to reports, the women confronted the worker after their trash hadn’t been collected for a week.

“The company activated immediate internal disciplinary processes to take the appropriate measures in the labor field,” said Claudia Bahamón, Aqualia’s manager for the Costa Norte region.

Aqualia stated that such behavior “contravenes the values, ethical principles and internal policies of the company, and does not correspond to the conduct expected of any employee.”

The incident began when one of the women questioned the worker about the missed collection, explaining that residents were being asked to bring their trash to the truck’s location because the vehicle wasn’t completing its usual route.

The worker reportedly responded with verbal abuse, and when the woman replied, he allegedly physically assaulted her daughter.
