On Saturday, April 26, 2026, Latvia will hold its ninth annual nationwide cleanup campaign, known as the Big Cleanup. Organizers report that over 1,150 cleanup sites have been registered across the country, marking a significant increase in public participation compared to previous years.

The initiative, coordinated through the official website talkas.lv, encourages individuals, families, workplace teams, and community groups to participate in local efforts to clean public spaces and improve the environment. Participants can register their cleanup locations or join existing events through an interactive map on the website.

In the Bauska region alone, more than 20 cleanup sites have been registered, including efforts along the Misa River from Zvirgzde to Dzelzamur, village cleanups in Valli, cemetery maintenance in Vecsaule, and riverbank work near Gailisi. Volunteers in Gailisi will also enjoy tea, a picnic, and oak tree planting as part of their activities.

To support the effort, the organizers are providing free garbage bags to participants, which can be picked up at local Rimi stores after registering online. The local government will manage the collection and disposal of filled bags following the event.

Registration for cleanup sites closed on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, but individuals can still join existing registered events by contacting organizers directly through the website.

This year’s campaign continues Latvia’s tradition of community-driven environmental action, fostering cleaner public spaces and stronger community engagement across the nation.
