Today, the young boy is living much like any child his age. “The next steps are to live life to the fullest,” his mother explained. “He’s stopped taking the antibiotic he’d been on to protect his lungs during chemotherapy, and his next scan is scheduled for one year from now. He’ll continue to see his oncologist every three months, with urine tests to monitor catecholamine levels. An increase in those levels would raise suspicion of a relapse.”
Despite the fatigue and challenges of his illness, Ayrton’s family remains hopeful. They are determined to savor every moment. “We need to enjoy life, and as his mother, I will do everything I can to make him happy and give him back his childhood, even though I resent the disease for stealing so much time from us,” she shared.
Young Ayrton is also embracing his role as a big brother to his younger brother, Colin, who will soon turn one. “Ayrton loves his brother and is increasingly taking his role as a big brother to heart,” his mother said. “His father, Damien, is our rock, and we will never give up.”
