Bulgarian artist, writer, photographer and television host Mikhail Zaimov has died following a prolonged illness, his family confirmed to BTA on April 26, 2026.
Zaimov, born on March 16, 1967, in Sofia, studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was widely recognized for his underwater photography and held numerous exhibitions in Bulgaria, and abroad.
He authored several books, including “Black Sea Dialogues” and “Sozopol in Images and Words,” which combined photography and text to explore coastal life and memory.
Reflecting on his perform, Zaimov once said, “At moments I breathed in answer to the existential question – is one person capable of changing such a space together with the ancient energies pursuing it within it? The solitary man against eternity is infinitely pitiable.”
In later years, he expanded his artistic focus beyond underwater themes, broadening his visual and conceptual range.
His passing was announced by family members through the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
