Bears Acquire Defensive Lineman Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in Trade with Browns
The Chicago Bears bolstered their defensive line today, November 4, 2025, acquiring defensive lineman Joe Tryon-Shoyinka from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick and a seventh-round pick.
The move comes as the Bears navigate a string of injuries to key defensive players, including Dayo Odeyingbo, who suffered a season-ending Achilles tear on Sunday, and Shemar Turner, who is out for the year with an ACL injury. Dominique Robinson also remains sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Chicago’s defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, has been forced to adjust the defensive rotation as a result.
Bears coach Ben Johnson acknowledged the team’s need for depth on the defensive side of the ball, stating, “You can never have too many pass rushers… I know (GM) Ryan (Poles) and his crew have been doing their due diligence all throughout the fall… to make sure if there’s a way that we can improve this roster, we’ll do that.” Tryon-Shoyinka, a former first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, recorded 15 sacks and 73 quarterback pressures during his time in Tampa Bay. He is a former college teammate of Bears defensive back Kyler Gordon. The Bears currently rank 28th in the NFL in sacks, making pass rush a clear area of need. NFL Sack Rankings
The Browns viewed Tryon-Shoyinka as a potential contributor but ultimately utilized him more on special teams. The trade frees up two roster spots for Cleveland. Team officials stated they will evaluate Tryon-Shoyinka’s role and contribution to the team in the coming weeks.
