North Park Book Fair Finds New Home at Bivouac Ciderworks After Venue Concerns
The annual North Park Book Fair will proceed as a “Taste of the Book Fair” on Saturday, October 18, 2025, spread across multiple locations in the neighborhood, thanks to a last-minute offer from Bivouac Ciderworks after construction and permit issues threatened to cancel the event.
Bivouac Ciderworks owner Lara Worm stepped in after learning from her sister, author Heather Nix, that the fair was in jeopardy. Worm offered the space at Bivouac Adventure Lodge, located at 3980 30th St., to host authors for mingling and signings. Additional locations include Verbatim Books at 3793 30th St., the Bargain Center parking lot at North Park Way and Ray St., and Subterranean Coffee at 3764 30th St., which will host romance writers in a dedicated “smut author alley.”
“We’re here to have fun,” Worm said. “We’re going to meet some authors, we’re going to have some cider… it’s not the most structured, it’s not the most planned, there’s not tickets. So I would say anybody who’s planning to come in, come with an open mind.” Worm envisions Bivouac as a community hub, expanding the business last year with the Adventure Lodge, a cafe and restaurant designed to foster connection. San Diego has historically lacked dedicated “third places” for community gathering, and this event aims to address that need. You can learn more about the concept of third places and their importance from the Project for Public Spaces.
The North Park Book Fair has been a popular annual event for local book lovers, and its continuation—even in a modified format—is a win for the community. Organizers say they are embracing the decentralized format and look forward to a lively event. Attendees can find more information about Bivouac Ciderworks and their offerings on their website.
Officials stated they are working to resolve the original venue issues for future events.
