The Swiss skier moved up five spots from her tenth-place showing after the first run, posting the sixth-fastest time in the final leg.
Coming off a 15th-place finish in the season-opening giant slalom in Sölden, Austria, Rast stepped up to lead the Swiss team in the absence of the injured Lara Gut-Behrami, whose season has come to an end. This result signals a positive trajectory for Rast as the World Cup season progresses.
Fresh off a third-place finish in the Gurgl slalom in Austria last week, the world champion appears to be finding her form and contending for podium spots this season.
Holdener and Kasper Improve on Sölden Results
Other Swiss skiers also showed improvement from their performances in Sölden. Wendy Holdener, who finished 30th in Austria, climbed to 18th place after finishing 20th in the first run, a welcome boost for the veteran racer.
Vanessa Kasper, starting with bib number 33, finished 26th after placing 29th in the first giant slalom of the season.
At the Colorado resort, New Zealand’s Alice Robinson dominated the competition, setting the fastest time in both runs to claim the victory. She now leads the World Cup giant slalom standings after winning in Sölden. Norway’s Thea Louise Stejrnesund joined Robinson with the fastest time in the second run, securing the third spot on the podium.
The women’s World Cup circuit moves to Mont-Tremblant, Canada, next week for two more giant slalom races.
