Circle City Broadcasting to Acquire WRTV-ABC in $83 Million Deal
Indianapolis-based Circle City Broadcasting announced today it has reached a definitive agreement to purchase WRTV-ABC from The E.W. Scripps Company for $83 million, significantly reshaping the local television landscape.
The acquisition, announced by DuJuan McCoy, owner, president, and CEO of Circle City Broadcasting, will add ABC programming to Circle City’s existing portfolio, which includes WISH-TV (CW) and WNDY (MyNetwork). Circle City Broadcasting is a privately held media company majority owned and operated by McCoy, a veteran broadcaster and former owner of Bayou City Broadcasting. This deal allows Circle City to offer a broader range of content to Indiana viewers.
“As a native of Indianapolis and a career small business owner, I am excited to expand Circle City Broadcasting’s footprint with the acquisition of WRTV-ABC,” McCoy said. “This strategic transaction reinforces our long-term commitment to Indiana, enhances our current broadcast capabilities, and creates meaningful value for both our audiences and our advertisers across Indiana.” He further noted that ABC’s sports programming, including future Super Bowl broadcasts in 2027 and 2031, complements WISH-TV’s local news and WNDY’s sports coverage. You can learn more about the Federal Communications Commission, which must approve the transaction.
The deal is expected to close pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Officials stated the transaction will strengthen Circle City Broadcasting’s position as a locally owned and operated media company dedicated to serving Indiana communities.
