A shooting in Sabanagrande on Saturday night left one man dead and another injured, according to Atlántico police. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges with violence and monitoring of individuals with criminal records in the region.
Authorities responded to the scene in the 2 de Marzo neighborhood around 11:35 p.m., where they found 28-year-old Adrián Enrique Barrios suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 21-year-old man was too struck by gunfire and transported to Hospital Universidad del Norte in Soledad for treatment.
Police confirmed that Barrios had a lengthy criminal record, with 34 prior arrests for escaping custody and one for weapons offenses. He was reportedly wearing an electronic monitoring device with GPS tracking as part of a house arrest sentence at the time of the shooting.
The investigation is being led by the Atlántico Police Judicial Department. Officials are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
