Construction site wall collapses near Fenerbahçe Stadium in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district

April 21, 2026 – A section of a retaining wall at a construction site adjacent to Fenerbahçe’s Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium gave way during foundation work in the Zühtüpaşa neighborhood of Kadıköy, prompting an immediate emergency response.

According to eyewitness accounts and video footage captured on mobile phones, soil movement preceded the sudden failure of several foundation piles, causing panic among nearby residents and workers.

Police, firefighters, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Authorities cordoned off the affected area with safety barriers and prevented public access to the zone as a precaution.

Dump trucks began delivering soil to the site to stabilize the ground and begin backfilling operations. Officials confirmed that although workers were present in the construction zone at the time of the collapse, all personnel were accounted for and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Investigators have launched a technical inquiry into the cause of the failure, while additional safety measures were implemented around nearby buildings and public thoroughfares.

The incident occurred in close proximity to Fenerbahçe’s home ground, a venue regularly used for Turkish Süper Lig matches and European competitions, drawing attention due to its location in a densely populated urban area.
