Tim McGraw Reveals He Considered Retirement Due to Health Struggles
Country music superstar Tim McGraw, 58, recently revealed he seriously contemplated retiring from his decades-long career due to ongoing and significant health challenges.
McGraw disclosed in a recent interview that he has undergone four back surgeries and two complete knee replacements in the past couple of years. Adding to the family’s difficulties, his wife has also faced multiple surgeries, including five on her neck and two on her hands. “This spring, before I had my final back surgery, things were really bad,” McGraw said. “So I was seriously contemplating and figuring out how to walk away. I didn’t want to, but I didn’t think it was going to get better.”
This isn’t the first time McGraw has publicly discussed the possibility of retirement; he previously addressed it after being forced to take time off last year due to his injuries. “To have almost a year of just sitting there…and I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, there were times this year that I thought this might be it,” he shared on the ‘Tracy Lawrence’s Road House’ podcast. The physical toll has raised concerns among fans about the longevity of careers for performing artists. For more on managing chronic pain, resources are available from the Mayo Clinic.
Fortunately, McGraw currently appears to be recovering well and continues to perform. He is currently on tour, with dates scheduled through 2025, as detailed on his official website. Representatives have stated McGraw is focused on his rehabilitation and committed to continuing his musical journey for as long as possible.
