Puducherry, India – A cricket coach required 20 stitches after being assaulted by players following a team selection for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. The incident, which occurred in Puducherry, has prompted a police investigation.

According to police, S. Venkataraman, the coach of the Puducherry Under-19 team, was attacked by three players. Investigators have confirmed that Venkataraman sustained serious head and shoulder injuries. “The coach’s condition is stable now. We are trying to identify the cricketers involved,” stated S. Rajesh, a sub-inspector at Sedarapet police station.

Venkataraman alleges in his complaint that the players, including Aravind Raj, Karthikeyan, and Santhosh Kumaran – all of whom have previously played in the Ranji Trophy – attacked him with a bat with the intent to cause serious harm. The incident follows previous complaints regarding the inclusion of out-of-state players on the Puducherry team using falsified documents, which had prevented local players from receiving opportunities.
