Kidney disease is a growing public health concern, with an estimated 21,000 Brazilians beginning dialysis treatment each year. The Brazilian Society of Nephrology (SBN) emphasizes that various factors can contribute to the development of kidney disease, potentially leading to a progressive loss of kidney function.

While no single food can fully protect the kidneys, dietary choices play a “fundamental” role in both preventing kidney disease and preserving kidney function throughout life, according to nephrologist Elber Rocha. He explains that certain vegetables can support reduce risk factors such as inflammation, high blood pressure, and the formation of kidney stones.

Among the foods linked to kidney health is the cucumber, which is notably high in water content. “The food stands out for its high water content, being composed of more than 90% of this element. This contributes to the hydration of the body, an essential factor for the proper functioning of the kidneys,” the doctor states.
