The Emma Bridge in Curacao will be reserved exclusively for pedestrian traffic during New Year’s Eve celebrations, according to a spokesperson for the Curacao Police Force. These measures are being taken to ensure public safety during a period of heightened activity and potential congestion.

Authorities are also prohibiting the placement of chairs or benches on the Emma Bridge, as well as barbecuing. The Julianabrug bridge will be completely closed to all traffic Wednesday evening, with several nearby roads also inaccessible.

Police officials anticipate significant traffic volume and are advising individuals planning to attend festivities at Brionplein to depart early. Vehicles parked illegally will be towed and can be retrieved starting January 5.

“We will decorate the square and have a beautiful program with music and artists,” stated Minister Sithree van Heydoorn of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. The planned celebrations highlight the importance of community events for cultural well-being, while also requiring careful logistical planning to manage public safety.
