‘Family Matters’ Star Darius McCrary Arrested Near U.S.-Mexico Border

Actor Darius McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the sitcom Family Matters, was arrested yesterday near the U.S.-Mexico border in California and is currently being held in a San Diego jail.

According to online records, the 48-year-old was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday on a fugitive arrest warrant related to a felony charge originating in another state. The California Penal Code section cited in the case typically applies to individuals wanted for serious offenses in other jurisdictions. This arrest adds another layer to McCrary’s ongoing legal challenges, which have been public for years.

McCrary has been previously arrested in 2015 and again in 2023 for failing to pay child support, stemming from a contentious divorce finalized in 2019 with ex-wife Tammy Brawner. He was ordered to pay $1,366 per month in child support as part of the divorce agreement. In 2023, McCrary filed for a restraining order against Brawner, alleging she was “terrorizing” him, though an earlier request was denied after he failed to appear in court, claiming he was displaced and had fled due to alleged abuse. McCrary rose to fame playing Eddie Winslow on Family Matters, which aired from 1989 to 1998, becoming a prominent teen actor of the 1990s. He recently spoke about his struggles with his ex-wife, even expressing fears for his safety, referencing the tragic death of Phil Hartman. You can find more about the history of the show here.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the out-of-state felony charge, and the investigation is ongoing.
