CBS Saturday Morning Faces Overhaul, Co-Anchors Let Go Amid Network Cuts

CBS Saturday Morning is undergoing a significant overhaul, resulting in the departure of co-anchors Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, as well as executive producer Brian Applegate, as CBS News navigates financial pressures and a changing media landscape.

The changes, reported today, come approximately three months after the announcement that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would be ending in May 2026. Sources indicate the Saturday morning program, which has aired for 28 years and currently broadcasts from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET, was deemed “too expensive” by new leadership appointed following the Paramount Skydance merger. Ratings for the show have also reportedly declined, falling 10% in total viewers and 20% in the 25 to 54 demographic.

In addition to the changes to CBS Saturday Morning, CBS News has canceled CBS Mornings Plus and CBS Evening News Plus, closed its bureau in Johannesburg, South Africa, and terminated the employment of senior foreign correspondent Deborah Patta. Further cuts include the departure of Los Angeles Bureau chief Joelle Martinez and significant reductions within the Race and Culture Unit, which lost eight of its nine employees. To date, fewer than 100 positions have been eliminated, with more cuts anticipated. These moves reflect a broader trend of cost-cutting measures within traditional media companies as they adapt to the rise of streaming and digital platforms.

CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss and president Tom Cibrowski are leading the restructuring efforts. The network has not yet announced a timeline for the final episode of CBS Saturday Morning or details regarding potential replacements for the departing anchors and producer, but officials stated they will provide updates as they become available.
