Wake Forest Suffers Crushing Defeat to Florida State, Coach Dickert Calls Out Lack of Improvement

Wake Forest experienced a significant setback yesterday, falling 42-7 to the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, a loss head coach Jake Dickert described as the first week this season the team did not improve.

The Demon Deacons struggled across all phases of the game, hampered by 11 penalties totaling 93 yards. “It just killed our momentum,” Dickert said after the game. “We had some big plays and some big runs, but we were constantly behind the chains.” Defensive lineman Jayden Loving echoed the sentiment, stating, “We had a lack of focus. We’re just more disciplined than that.” This defeat raises concerns about Wake Forest’s ability to compete with top-tier ACC opponents.

Despite a strong week of practice, the team failed to execute on Saturday night, surrendering numerous chunk plays to a potent Florida State offense. Dickert acknowledged the team’s fight but emphasized the need for improvement. “There’s no such thing as too much adversity,” he stated. “We’ve got to play better complementary football. The offense, the past two weeks, has not met the standard of what we’re capable of.” You can find more information about the NCAA Football standings here.

Wake Forest (5-3, 2-3 ACC) will now prepare to face No. 15 Virginia (8-1, 5-0 ACC) on Saturday, November 8, at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. ET on The ACC Network. Dickert emphasized this is a “culture test” for his team, adding, “I know the way our team’s going to respond to this; there is not a single person that worked throughout the course of the week for this result.” For more on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, visit their official athletic website.
