A Polish national died and two others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on a German highway on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The incident, which occurred on the A11 near Penkun, involved three vehicles all carrying Polish citizens, highlighting the risks faced by travelers on major European routes.

According to early reports, a 45-year-old man driving a Mercedes transporter with a trailer collided with the rear of a truck. Dense fog is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident, limiting visibility for drivers. Shortly after, a 44-year-old driver in an Audi A4 crashed into the trailer of the Mercedes.

One passenger in the Mercedes transporter sustained critical injuries and died shortly after being transported to a hospital. Another passenger from the bus suffered serious injuries, while the 45-year-old driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries. The drivers of the truck and the Audi were unharmed.

German authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. A forensic expert specializing in traffic accidents has been dispatched to the scene to determine the precise sequence of events. Polish Observer reported that the estimated material damage exceeds 75,000 euros.

The incident underscores the potential dangers of driving in challenging weather conditions, particularly during the winter months. All individuals involved in the collision were Polish nationals, raising questions about travel safety for citizens of the country within the European Union.

The A11 highway was temporarily impacted by the accident, but has since been cleared. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution while traveling on German roadways, especially in areas prone to fog.
