Residents and visitors in Diest, Belgium, should prepare for temporary disruptions to traffic and pedestrian access begining November 28th, as construction commences on Hasseltsestraat in preparation for a new building project. The work, scheduled to continue through December 4th, will impact areas including Botermarkt and Sint-Jan Berchmansstraat, requiring drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and heed posted signage, according to a release from the city of Diest.

Construction Project to Impact Parking and Pedestrian Access in Diest

A construction project slated to run from November 28th through December 4th will temporarily disrupt parking and pedestrian traffic in several areas of Diest, Belgium. The work, undertaken by URBAN REAL ESTATE BV, is preparatory for a new building project on Hasseltsestraat.

The impacted areas include Hasseltsestraat, Botermarkt, and Sint-Jan Berchmansstraat, where sidewalks and some parking spaces will be unavailable during the construction period. This type of localized infrastructure work is increasingly common as cities adapt to evolving needs and accommodate new development.

Work Schedule and Details

URBAN REAL ESTATE BV will be conducting drilling work as part of the project. December 1st is expected to see particularly extensive parking restrictions as the project team welds pipes.

Expected Disruptions

  • Vehicle Traffic: Parking will be prohibited in designated areas at various times throughout the work period. Drivers are advised to carefully check posted signage and adhere to all restrictions.
  • Pedestrians: A crosswalk will be inaccessible for one day during the project. Sidewalk access will also be limited. Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution and follow posted directions.
  • Cyclists: No disruptions are anticipated for bicycle traffic.
