Stranger Things Creators Address Allegations of On-Set Dispute Between Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour
Co-creators of the Netflix series Stranger Things addressed reports today regarding a potential dispute between Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour, stemming from allegations of bullying and harassment.
Reports surfaced earlier this week alleging that Brown filed a formal complaint against Harbour before the start of filming for the show’s final season. The alleged complaint, reportedly spanning multiple pages, prompted an internal inquiry that lasted several months, with filming having begun in January 2024. The outcome of any investigation remains undisclosed, but the allegations have raised concerns about workplace conditions on the popular series.
At the season five world premiere in Los Angeles yesterday, Ross Duffer responded to questions from The Hollywood Reporter, stating, “Obviously, you understand I can’t get into personal onset matters, but I will say we’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them. So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.” Executive Producer Shawn Levy echoed this sentiment, adding, “At the end of the day, that’s the job. You have to create a respectful workplace where everyone feels comfortable and safe, and so we did everything to build that environment. And we’re proud of the fact that we did so.” He further stated that many reports circulating were “wildly inaccurate.”
The Duffer Brothers and Levy emphasized the importance of a safe and respectful work environment for the entire cast and crew, a standard increasingly scrutinized in the entertainment industry following federal guidelines on workplace harassment. Production officials stated they are committed to maintaining that environment as the final season of Stranger Things prepares for release, and will continue to prioritize the well-being of all involved.
Officials have not commented on the status of any internal inquiry, and have indicated they will not be discussing the matter further at this time.
