Dutch police have seized 86,000 pre-rolled joints and over 120 kilograms of hashish in a raid near the German border, authorities said on April 17, 2026.
The operation took place in the southern Netherlands, specifically in the town of Echt, just a few kilometers from North Rhine-Westphalia. Officers from a specialized unit, assisted by drug-sniffing dogs, initially found nothing suspicious during their search of a commercial building.
After a thorough investigation, investigators uncovered a concealed room containing the illicit substances. The discovery followed reports of unusual activity around two separate properties, which led police to the location.
No arrests were made at the time of the seizure, according to police statements. The confiscated drugs are scheduled for destruction.
The seizure highlights ongoing challenges in cross-border drug trafficking, particularly in regions where the Netherlands’ tolerant drug policies meet stricter regulations in neighboring Germany.
