ICE Raids Reported Across Southern California, Raising Community Concerns
Multiple reports surfaced over the weekend and continuing today of increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol activity across Southern California, resulting in numerous detentions and sparking concern among community watch groups.
Yesterday, November 3rd, activity was reported in San Bernardino, where agents allegedly boxed in a vehicle, broke a window, and detained the driver, also taking possession of the vehicle. Earlier in the day, similar incidents occurred in San Diego’s Logan Heights and Ontario, with reports of three individuals being taken into custody near a dog park and three to four individuals detained near recycling centers, respectively. Over the weekend, raids were reported in cities including Whittier, Huntington Park, and Los Angeles, with at least one individual taken into custody reported to have pre-existing medical conditions requiring regular attention. One witness reported seeing Border Patrol agents making “aggressive, hostile moves” with their vehicle while pursuing a man who was alerting others to the activity.
Community watch groups have been actively documenting the ICE and Border Patrol presence, often confronting agents and attempting to provide legal guidance to those targeted. In Buena Park, agents reportedly confronted a community watch member who was documenting their activity. In Westminster, a car wash manager briefly closed his business to ensure the safety of employees after agents entered the premises. These increased enforcement efforts come as immigration remains a key political issue and could have significant impacts on local communities.
Additionally, Union Del Barrio held a press conference today demanding the release of Benjamin Marcelo Guerrero, a high school student detained by agents in August while walking his dog. He has been in ICE custody for nearly three months. For more information on immigration laws and rights, visit the American Civil Liberties Union. ICE and Border Patrol officials have not yet released a statement regarding the increased activity, but are expected to provide further information in the coming days.
