Taiwan’s Formosat-8 Satellite Launch Delayed to Early Saturday

The launch of Taiwan’s Formosat-8 satellite has been postponed again, now scheduled for the early hours of Saturday, according to multiple reports. The satellite, also known as Chiplin, was initially slated for launch earlier this week, but faced delays due to unspecified issues.

The launch is now targeted for between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM Taiwan time on Saturday, January 27th. The launch will be broadcast live from the space center.

Formosat-8 is a low-orbit satellite, and its development represents a significant step for Taiwan’s domestic technology sector. Taiwanese manufacturers are increasingly focusing on securing key technologies and bolstering self-reliance in satellite development.

The satellite is the first in a series for the Formosat-8 program. The launch marks a new milestone for the program, and is being closely watched as Taiwan continues to develop its space capabilities.

Central News Agency reported that the space center will provide a full live stream of the launch.

Public Television Service Network also confirmed the Saturday launch window and live broadcast plans.

The satellite’s development underscores Taiwan’s commitment to advancing its space technology and reducing its dependence on foreign suppliers. Yahoo detailed the key technologies being consolidated through domestic research and development.

Central Broadcasting System reported that this launch represents a new milestone for the Formosat-8 program.

Liberty Times initially reported the emergency halt to the launch and the subsequent rescheduling.
