Formula 1 is set to return to Türkiye’s Istanbul Park circuit starting in 2027 as part of a new five-year agreement with the Turkish government.
The Turkish Grand Prix will rejoin the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar from the 2027 season through to 2031, following confirmation from Formula 1 officials.
Istanbul Park last hosted Formula 1 races in 2020 and 2021, with Lewis Hamilton securing his seventh Drivers’ Championship title at the venue in 2020, equalling Michael Schumacher’s all-time record.
The 5.33-kilometre circuit, known for its dramatic elevation changes and technically demanding layout, first appeared on the F1 calendar in 2005 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the championship’s most challenging tracks.
Notable features include the multi-apex Turn 8, nicknamed “Diabolica,” which tests driver precision through its long, sweeping left-hander, and the sharp downhill section referred to as the “Turkish Corkscrew.”
Brazilian driver Felipe Massa holds the record for the most victories at Istanbul Park, having won three consecutive races there between 2006 and 2008 while driving for Ferrari.
Other former winners at the circuit include Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, and Valtteri Bottas, who took the most recent victory in 2021 driving for Mercedes.
Türkiye has hosted a total of nine Grands Prix to date, with Istanbul Park consistently delivering competitive racing across the field and remaining a favourite among teams, drivers, and fans.
The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) will serve as Formula 1’s delivery partner for the future events at the circuit under the new agreement.
The return of the Turkish Grand Prix in 2027 marks a significant revival of the event after its absence from the calendar since the 2021 season, which was held as a replacement venue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
