$6 Million State Investment to Expand Mental Healthcare in Humboldt County
Humboldt County will receive $6 million in state funding to expand mental healthcare facilities and services, announced yesterday at a press conference.
State Senator Mike McGuire revealed the funding allocation, which will be distributed to local mental healthcare providers. The investment aims to bolster services for individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance use disorders within the county. This comes as Humboldt County, like many rural areas, faces significant barriers to accessing adequate mental healthcare.
“This is a game changer for Humboldt County,” McGuire stated. “These funds will allow us to expand critical services, reduce wait times, and get folks the care they desperately need.” The funding will support major expansions at Humboldt Behavioral Health facilities, increasing capacity and improving the quality of care offered. Officials indicated the funding will be immediately put to use, with projects slated to begin in the coming months. The expansion is expected to address a growing need for mental health support in the region, as highlighted in recent county health reports. McGuire emphasized the commitment to ensuring equitable access to mental healthcare for all residents of Humboldt County.
