The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, has announced an upcoming meeting to address concerns over what he described as “flagrant Iranian aggressions” against member states. The meeting, scheduled to accept place virtually, will include the participation of foreign ministers from GCC countries, their European counterparts and Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
According to a statement from the Saudi Press Agency, the discussions will focus on the repercussions of these alleged Iranian actions, not only for GCC members but also for the wider international community. This development underscores increasing regional instability and the potential for broader conflict.
Albudaiwi stated that the meetings with regional and international partners are intended to condemn attacks targeting civilians, infrastructure, and diplomatic representations within GCC states. He also emphasized the need for the international community to take responsibility for bolstering regional and international stability, and security.
Kaja Kallas, who assumed the role of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in December 2024, will be a key participant in the talks. Her involvement signals the EU’s commitment to addressing the escalating tensions in the region, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency. The meeting comes as concerns grow over Iran’s regional activities, prompting calls for a unified international response, as highlighted in European Commission reports.
