Italian aesthetic medicine specialist Genny Urtis, born Giacomo Urtis in Venezuela, is opening up about her decade-long journey of gender transition and self-revelation. Urtis, who gained public recognition through appearances on popular Italian reality shows, recently reflected on the complexities of her transition, highlighting the ongoing process of aligning her inner self with her physical presentation. Her story arrives as transgender visibility grows within Italian media and entertainment, offering a personal look at the challenges and triumphs of living authentically.
Originally named Giacomo Urtis in Caracas, Venezuela, the doctor specializing in aesthetic medicine is now a transgender woman.
“I went from being heterosexual, to gay, from a man to a transgender woman. Surgery and aesthetic medicine have been my allies in improving myself,” Genny Urtis recently shared, reflecting on the decade-long transition she began in 2013, a journey she admits may never truly be finished. “Some decisions take a long time to mature. Right now, people who approach me see a trans woman. It’s delicate to explain. Perhaps I’m not yet psychologically ready to fully confront everything,” said the aesthetic medicine specialist, who also gained recognition as a television personality through appearances on shows like L’Isola dei Famosi and Il Grande Fratello Vip. Urtis’s story reflects a growing visibility of transgender individuals in Italian media and entertainment.
Born on , in Caracas, Venezuela, to Sardinian parents, Genny spent her childhood in South America before moving to Alghero, Italy, with her family. After earning a degree in Medicine and specializing in Dermatology, she obtained a Master’s degree in Cosmetic Surgery from the State University of Milan. It was through her profession – serving a clientele that included several figures from the entertainment world – that she first appeared on television. In 2023, following a personal transformation that began in 2013, Urtis debuted with blonde hair and a more feminine appearance.
“Inside, I always feel like myself, the self I’ve always felt. There was a misalignment between my body and who I was, and even when I was a man, I always took on the feminine role with my partners,” Genny explained during a March 2023 appearance on Francesca Fagnani’s Belve. “Throughout my life, I’ve been comfortable with different looks – dark hair, curly hair, blonde with bangs… But I might say, ‘I’ll never get breast implants!’ and then decide to do it a week later. It depends on my mood. But I don’t want to become a superfeminine woman – I won’t be, and I can’t be. And yet I see people exaggerating, changing their voices, removing their Adam’s apples… But why? There are plenty of women out there; people are attracted to who you are.”
Urtis’s past relationships include a connection with Rodrigo Alves, known as the “Human Ken,” and during her time on L’Isola dei Famosi, she admitted to having a passionate connection with a fellow contestant whose identity she chose not to reveal. Regarding Fabrizio Corona, Urtis previously revealed she was in a relationship with the former paparazzi and even planned to marry him while on Grande Fratello, but Corona later denied the claims, stating their relationship was simply a friendship.
