At 19, Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh has already established herself as a world-record holder in multiple events, but the Toronto native shows no signs of slowing down. McIntosh, coached by renowned Jon Rudd, openly outlines ambitious goals for continued advancement adn further breaking world records across multiple disciplines. This comes as the swimming world adjusts to the recent retirement of Australian star Ariarne Titmus, a frequent competitor and inspiration to McIntosh. The young phenom reflects on TitmusS impact while setting her sights on future challenges.

At just 19 years old, Summer McIntosh is already a dominant force in swimming, holding World Records in the 400 freestyle, 200 individual medley, and 400 individual medley. But the Toronto native isn’t content to rest on her impressive achievements.

Unlike many athletes who keep their goals close to the vest, McIntosh openly shares her ambitious targets, demonstrating a remarkable confidence in her ability to achieve them. “I want the two hundred butterfly world record,” she stated. “I definitely want to get to 1:52 in the 200 free at some point. And in the other events, I want to keep shaving time off the world records, aiming for 8:04 or faster in the 800 free.”

The swimming world recently lost a potential rival and training partner in Ariarne Titmus, the four-time Olympic gold medalist and 200 freestyle World Record holder, who announced her retirement from the sport last month. The Australian swimmer’s departure removes a significant competitor from the pool, and a rivalry that many fans hoped would reach its peak at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

McIntosh acknowledged the impact Titmus had on her own development. “She was absolutely incredible, and she’s always been such an inspiration to me in the two free, four free, and eight free,” McIntosh said. “Any time I raced her, she always put up an amazing fight and she always pushed me to be better myself. She’s achieved everything that she wanted to and it’s cool to see her start this new chapter in her life, so huge congrats to her on her amazing career.”
