George Clooney Shares Fond Memories of ‘The Golden Girls’ and Beatrice Arthur
Actor George Clooney recently reminisced about his guest appearance on the iconic sitcom The Golden Girls, praising the show and particularly the comedic timing of star Beatrice Arthur.
Clooney’s comments came in a new trailer for The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter & Friendship – Special Edition of 20/20, where he and other celebrities including Kelly Ripa, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Laverne Cox, and Mario Lopez discuss the show’s enduring legacy. “The Golden Girls!” Clooney said with a smile in the teaser. The series, starring Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty, followed the lives of four women sharing a home in Miami during their retirement years.
Clooney, who appeared in the season two episode “To Catch a Neighbor” as an undercover detective, revealed that Arthur “made me laugh harder than anybody.” He previously shared similar sentiments on The Wrap in 2022, describing her as “filthy funny” and noting the show’s ability to push boundaries. Sheryl Lee Ralph echoed the sentiment, stating, “Who wasn’t a fan of The Golden Girls?”
The Golden Girls ran for seven seasons on NBC, from September 1985 to May 1992, totaling 180 episodes and earning numerous accolades, including two Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys and individual Emmy wins for each of its four lead actresses – a testament to its groundbreaking portrayal of women and aging. The special is set to air on ABC on Tuesday, November 11, and will be available for streaming the following day on both Disney+ and Hulu.
