Beijing issued a yellow fog warning on April 16, 2026, as visibility dropped sharply across much of the city overnight into the early morning of April 17.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory released the alert at 9:30 p.m. Local time, forecasting heavy fog from late night through sunrise, with visibility falling below 1,000 meters in most areas and under 500 meters in some locations.

Authorities urged residents to take precautions, including avoiding high-altitude work, monitoring traffic updates, and using public transportation when possible. Drivers were advised to reduce speed, stay alert, and pull safely off the road if involved in an accident, moving away from vehicles and potential hazards while awaiting aid.

The city’s emergency management office also reminded older adults, children, and those with health conditions to limit outdoor exposure and wear protective gear if venturing outside.

Similar warnings were issued in Hebei Province, where Anping County upgraded its alert to orange later the same day, signaling even denser fog with visibility dropping below 200 meters in localized areas.
