MADRID, Feb. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei has unveiled a series of novel products at a global launch event in Madrid, Spain, marking a significant return to the smartwatch market and showcasing advancements in its smartphone technology. The company reintroduced professional running watches after a five-year absence with the debut of the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, alongside the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro, HUAWEI MatePad Mini, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5, and HUAWEI Band 11 Series.

The launch event also featured the introduction of two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge as the global ambassador for the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner. “Running means much more than running fast,” Kipchoge said. “I believe that running is the most beautiful activity on every level. Together with Huawei, we can reach millions of runners around the world and hopefully impact their lives in a beautiful and positive way.”

The HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 is engineered with a new 3D floating antenna architecture designed to deliver precise positioning. According to Huawei, an intelligent positioning algorithm ensures continued trajectory and distance calculation even when GPS signals are interrupted. The watch also includes a new intelligent marathon mode, offering comprehensive race management features intended to function as a personal coach during races. This focus on both professional athletes and amateur runners signals Huawei’s ambition to capture a broader segment of the fitness tracking market.

Alongside the new smartwatch, Huawei highlighted the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro, powered by the company’s self-designed Kirin 9030 Pro processor. The overseas version of the Mate 80 Pro will run on the Android-based EMUI 15 operating system, representing a renewed push into the global smartphone market after overcoming recent tech sanctions. The Mate 80 Pro was initially launched in China in November.

Huawei’s return to the international market with the Mate 80 Pro follows a period of strong domestic performance, where it edged out Apple in 2025 to become the leading smartphone vendor in mainland China, capturing a 16.4 percent market share, according to data from IDC. The company also showcased the HUAWEI MatePad Mini and HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 at the Madrid event. The launch of these devices demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to diversifying its product portfolio and re-establishing its presence on the global stage.

The event also highlighted Huawei’s advancements in wearable technology with the introduction of a “wheelchair mode” to its devices, further expanding accessibility features. The HUAWEI Band 11 Series was also presented, rounding out the range of new products unveiled in Madrid.
