Indonesia’s smartphone market is experiencing a resurgence in early 2025 with the return of four Chinese brands – Huawei, Motorola, Honor, and Meizu – after a period of absence. The re-entry of these players signals increased competition in a key Southeast Asian market and offers consumers a wider range of options.

The comeback is marked by the launch of new products across various segments, from flagship devices like the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra and Honor Magic V3, to mid-range and entry-level phones such as the Moto G45 and Meizu Mblu 21.

Huawei is one of the major brands re-introducing smartphones to Indonesia, having last launched a device in the country – the Huawei P50 Pro – in February 2022. While the company continued to sell other products like tablets, laptops, and smartwatches, smartphone sales were paused until the announcement of their return in November 2024.

The company’s return is highlighted by the launch of its flagship Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, marking the debut of the Pura series in Indonesia, a rebranding of Huawei’s P series flagship line. Huawei expressed optimism that its re-entry into the Indonesian smartphone market will pave the way for the introduction of more Huawei phones in the future.
