Huawei Pura X Max Launches as First Wide Foldable Smartphone
Huawei has unveiled the Pura X Max, marking the debut of the world’s first super-wide folding smartphone with a single fold design. The device launched in China in April 2026 and is now available for purchase there.

The Pura X Max features a 7.7-inch foldable LTPO2 AMOLED inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. When folded, it uses a 5.4-inch outer LTPO2 AMOLED screen, also running at 120Hz and reaching up to 3,500 nits brightness.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset paired with the Maleoon 935 GPU. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. The device runs on HarmonyOS 6.1.
For photography, the Pura X Max includes a 50MP main camera with variable aperture and OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, a 12.5MP ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP front-facing camera.
The device is equipped with a 5,300mAh battery that supports 66W wired swift charging.
Huawei’s launch of the Pura X Max introduces a latest wide foldable form factor that contrasts with the tall, book-style designs seen in current foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. Industry analysts note that this shift toward wider screens may influence upcoming designs from Apple and Samsung, with both companies expected to release their own wide foldable models later in 2026.
The Pura X Max represents a return to a horizontally wide foldable concept, similar in aspect to early experiments like the original Google Pixel Fold, but with modern improvements in display technology and hinge design.
