Troy Baker, renowned for his voice acting roles as Joel in The Last of Us and Booker in BioShock Infinite, has announced he is beginning conversations to launch his own game studio.
The veteran voice actor, with over 430 credits across games and animations, shared his plans during an interview with Kinda Funny Games, expressing his desire to transition from performing characters created by others to developing original stories on his own terms.
Baker emphasized that he is not rushing the process, stating he wants to take the time needed to ensure any story he tells meets the high calibre of the industry-leading titles he has worked on, such as those directed by Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, and Vince Zampella.
He cited Abubakar Salim, who founded Surgent Studios after voicing the protagonist in Assassin’s Creed Origins, as inspiration for his career shift toward game development.
The move reflects a growing trend of established voice actors leveraging their industry experience to create original narratives, with Baker aiming to build a team of trusted collaborators to bring his creative vision to life.
This development comes as Baker remains actively involved in upcoming projects, including Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Levine’s Judas, whereas exploring the next phase of his career in interactive storytelling.
