The Cervantes Institute in Cairo is marking World Book Day 2026 with a vibrant cultural program featuring collective readings, live music, and a special conversation with a celebrated Spanish author.
According to a statement released by the institute on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the festivities will kick off at 1:00 p.m. With a small exhibition of library treasures, accompanied by recreational activities tailored for Spanish language students.
At 3:00 p.m., participants will gather for a bilingual reading of Miguel de Cervantes’ masterpiece Don Quixote, presented in both Arabic and Spanish. The communal reading will continue until 7:00 p.m., with each reader receiving a symbolic keepsake.
The event will too include a rich dialogue with Spanish writer Irene Vallejo, author of the acclaimed operate The Infinite in a Reed, which traces the history of books and highlights Alexandria as a pivotal waypoint in that journey.
In addition to the literary program, organizers have arranged a musical performance to complement the day’s celebrations, underscoring the institute’s ongoing mission to promote Spanish language and culture along the banks of the Nile.
The Cervantes Institute, established in 1991, continues to serve as a hub for Spanish education and cultural exchange in Egypt, offering courses, teacher training, and library services to foster connections between Spanish-speaking communities worldwide.
