Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after talks with Pakistani officials, according to Iranian state media. His departure coincided with an announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump that he had canceled a planned visit to Pakistan by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Trump said on his Truth Social platform that the trip was scrapped because he had “wasted too much time and work” on efforts that yielded nothing. He added that there was “serious internal conflict and confusion” within Iran’s leadership, stating, “Nobody knows who’s in charge, not even them.”

The U.S. President emphasized that Washington holds “all the cards” while Iran possesses “nothing,” and insisted that if Tehran wishes to talk, “all they have to do is call.”

Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif described his meeting with Araghchi as a “warm and very friendly” discussion on regional developments. The Iranian foreign minister had arrived in Islamabad the previous day, April 24, 2026, amid expectations that he would present Tehran’s response to proposals aimed at ending the ongoing war.

No breakthrough was reported from the talks, and Araghchi proceeded to Muscat, Oman, after leaving Pakistan. The developments underscore the fragility of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between the U.S. And Iran, with regional mediators like Pakistan facing mounting challenges in facilitating dialogue.
