TEL AVIV / OSLO – A barrage of Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv and central Israel on Thursday evening, according to reports. Iranian authorities claim cluster munitions were used in the attack, escalating tensions in a region already on high alert.
A reporter for Dagbladet in Tel Aviv, Morten Risberg, reported on the attack as it unfolded, observing objects in the sky above the city. See video of the event here.
– There have been two alarms so far. During the first, we heard a long series of booms in the distance. The second time, you could see the entire massive salvo heading towards Tel Aviv. I would estimate there were over 50 missiles, said Risberg, who is now in a safe location.
Risberg added that panic appeared more widespread than in previous incidents. “People were really running for their lives,” he said.
As of now, no injuries have been reported following the attacks.
A video from Dagbladet’s reporter on the ground shows people fleeing, with one man exclaiming:
– Oh my god, oh my god.
The all-clear was given shortly before 10:20 PM local time. The Israeli military stated at 11:20 PM that it was safe to exit bomb shelters.
– Rescue crews are operating in several locations across the country where rocket impacts have been reported. The public is asked to avoid gatherings in these areas, the IDF wrote on X.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, an Iranian ballistic missile as well struck a location in central Israel Thursday evening – without any air raid sirens sounding beforehand.
The newspaper reports that Iran has launched multiple missiles toward Israel Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Reuters reports that Israel is bombing the outskirts of Beirut in Lebanon, in a retaliatory strike against Hezbollah. The IDF stated this in a release.
Evacuation warnings were issued for the same area earlier Thursday.
