Israel’s Security Zone Plans for Southern Lebanon

Israeli forces have thwarted an invasion plot by Hezbollah, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced during a visit to southern Lebanon, according to a video released by his office.

In the footage, Netanyahu, wearing a bulletproof vest and surrounded by masked soldiers, said the war continues, including within the security zone in Lebanon.

“What we are seeing is that we have eliminated an invasion threat from Lebanon through this security zone,” he stated, noting he was accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.

He emphasized that ground operations in southern Lebanon have helped “contain the risk of rocket fire” launched by Hezbollah against residents in northern Israel, adding that Israeli forces “are also dealing with Hamas” in the area.

“We need to do more, and we are doing that,” Netanyahu said.

The Israeli Home Front Command reported on Sunday that it had detected 10 rocket attacks from Lebanon toward Israel, with no injuries or damage reported.

Netanyahu’s visit comes two days before direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are set to begin in Washington.

On Saturday, he said, “Lebanon has been in touch with us…”
