Former Feyenoord player and manager Johan Boskamp continues to face ongoing health challenges as he grapples with a medical setback at age 77.

The Dutch football legend, who played for Feyenoord and managed clubs across Belgium and beyond, revealed in a recent interview that his recovery has stalled and he is experiencing fluctuating symptoms.

Boskamp described his condition as unpredictable, saying some days he feels manageable even as others he struggles to walk.

“It’s up and down,” he said, using the Dutch term “kwakkelen” to capture the instability of his health.

The former midfielder disclosed he has dealt with four medical issues, three of which have been resolved, but persistent muscle rheumatism continues to cause significant pain.

“It’s just awful. I’ve had four things. Three are fixed. Only that muscle rheumatism isn’t. Just terrible,” Boskamp stated bluntly.

The pain has impacted his daily life and limited his ability to attend matches. During a recent De Klassieker fixture, he had to leave the stadium just ten minutes after halftime due to severe discomfort.

Boskamp is currently undergoing intensive treatment, including daily medication and multiple injections, but relief remains elusive despite the aggressive therapy.

Two months ago, signs of improvement emerged during a visit by RTV Rijnmond in Belgium, but since then he has suffered a relapse requiring renewed hospitalization.

Following a recent hospital check-up on Friday, doctors observed an inadequate response to the administered injections and decided to initiate a fresh treatment plan.

Despite the challenges, Boskamp remains resolute, emphasizing he is still present and hopeful the latest approach will bring improvement.
